Word of Mouth: phōnḗ

Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery

phōnḗ. Credits: Andy SaundersTytti Arola’s new work phōnḗ is a piece for voices and tin can telephones. The piece reflects on how we can connect with sound: we can sing, talk and listen even with distance by using different technologies.

phōnḗ: “sound, voice, speech, language”
tēle: “far away, distant”

Each singer has their own tin can telephone to play with and to sing into. During the piece the singers send imaginary greetings to all over the world. phōnḗ reminds us to listen to each other, spend time together, say important things to one another and to remain playful.
