Bente Leiknes Thorsen (b. 1980) studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music between 2001 and 2007. She has composed for soloists and for chamber orchestras, but it is with larger orchestras and orchestras with human voices that she has her strength. In her musical works she explores the role of the composer and the concept of musical work. In many of her works, the music step out of the concert hall through the use of everyday sounds. The human body is another material that still returns to Thorsen's music, both recorded and in score. Often the voice has the role of transition between the work and the room around, as a bridge between a composed and a concrete audio world. We meet voices both in the works for singers and in music where instrumentalists must use the voice in addition to playing. Somewhere, the composer's voice also speaks of its own soundtrack.
